Clarkston is a residential suburb, about 7km. south of Glasgow City Centre and lies in the local authority area of East Renfrewshire.  It was formerly the main shopping centre for the surrounding area but, although it still has many shops, larger units in Glasgow, East Kilbride and Newton Mearns are now attracting the main volume of shoppers.

Clarkston has good transport links, being served by both bus and rail.  Two stations, Clarkston and Williamwood, have regular services to Glasgow Central Station with journey times of under twenty minutes. There are regular bus services to Glasgow, East Kilbride, Eaglesham, Newton Mearns and Paisley. Glasgow International Airport is less than 30 minutes by taxi, and Prestwick Airport can be reached in about 45 minutes.

The area has good primary and secondary schools which attract families with school-age children to the district.
